Ready to build a course or personalize an existing ej4 course? This tutorial has you covered.
First and foremost, you need to make sure that you’ve been given the right privileges to create a course inside your company’s Thinkzoom account. If you do not see the Course Builder option from the main navigation, then you will need to contact your administrator to gain access.
For those with this permission, click the Course Builder option to open up this menu.
By default, you'll notice there are different ways to go about building content. You can:
- Upload a video file or document
- Create a custom recording using Thinkzoom’s authoring tool
- Build content around existing ej4 content
- Or upload an instructor-led course
We have created separate tutorials for each of these that you can find in the Help Center. With that said, let’s walk through one of the five options from beginning to end.
Let’s act as if we’re building a course that uses existing ej4 content. Click on the Use Existing Content option and then follow these steps.
Step One: Give Your Course a Name and Description
Add in a title and a brief description and then hit Next to move onto the next step.
Step 2: Enable or Disable Course Options
This next step is about enabling or disabling options. If you only want this content to be accessible until a certain date, use the Expiration Date field. If you don’t want your users to be able to skip through this course, check the Disable Scrubber box. To make sure this course is public when you’re done creating it, check the Published box. Or if you want to enable surveys or make CEUs available, check off those boxes as well.
Step 3: Upload Existing Content and Other Resources
To add existing content, scroll down to the Add Content section and click the Existing Content tab from the menu. Now search for the specific course you want and add it. You can also attach other supportive documents, such as our supporting materials. These will show up in the Documents section.
For this example, let's use a hypothetical that you want to share a custom video you made on recent company sales wins and want to pair it with an existing ej4 course, "Closing the Sale."
Find your custom piece and upload it.
Next, find the ej4 course "Closing the Sale" and add it to the Videos section. You can also use this section to include Student Materials. Find the "Closing the Sale" document from the search field and it'll be added to the Contents section:
Click Next to move to the next step.
Step 4: Associate Content to Groups, Tracks or Topics
This step gives you the option of tagging the course to any of your Groups, Tracks or Topics. Search for the one(s) you want and click Next to move onto the final step.
Step 5: Add Exam and Create the Course
This last step gives you the option to create a custom exam for your learners. To make a custom exam, click the blue Manage Exams button. For more on custom exams, be sure to read this how-to article here.
After you’ve finished this step, click the orange Create Course button to complete the process.
You're then directed to your new course page where you can proof everything you added or continue to edit further by clicking the orange pencil icon below the video player.
Above the video, there is a notification saying the course is unpublished. To publish, click the yellow Publish button. You're then taken back to the main dashboard with a notification saying the course was successfully published.
